Drs. Fortuin completed his medical studies at the University of Amsterdam (AMC/UvA) in 2008. After graduating he followed several internships in Plastic Surgery at Yale University and New York University in the United States. He then worked in the Plastic Surgery departments of the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis in Amsterdam, the Catharina Hospital in Eindhoven, the Maxima Medical Center in Veldhoven and the Sint Anna Hospital in Geldrop.
From 2011 to 2017 he trained as a Plastic, Reconstructive, Cosmetic and Hand Surgeon at the AMC, the Netherlands Cancer Institute Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (NKI-AvL), the Red Cross Hospital in Beverwijk and the Spaarne Gasthuis in Haarlem. During his training he was a board member of the National Junior Association for Plastic Surgery (JVPC). He also followed several national and international courses.
Shai Fortuin is the author and co-author of several scientific articles. He has written, together with his father and brothers the medical children’s book “How does an aspirin know where the pain is?”. He is an official Fellow of the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (EBOPRAS) by passing the required exams and is also a member of the Dutch Association for Plastic Surgery (NVPC) and the Dutch Association for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (NVEPC) .
