Intro

Dr. Floris van Zijl completed his medical studies and training as an ENT specialist at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. Early in his training he developed a passion for facial surgery, which, after his training as an ENT specialist, led to recognized specialist further training in facial surgery. This training was completed at the Radboud UMC in Nijmegen, and was made possible by a grant from the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery. Thanks in part to passing the infamous American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery exam, he is internationally recognized and certified as a facial surgeon. In 2020, he became a member of the staff of the ENT department of Erasmus MC, with specific expertise in the field of complex nose operations. These are rhinoplasties that aim to improve breathing and appearance after, for example, an extensive accident, a congenital defect or a recovery operation after a failed nose operation elsewhere. As an academic nasal surgeon, Dr. van Zijl is also scientifically active in nasal surgery, and he obtained his PhD on this subject. As a PhD candidate, he took part in various courses and conferences in Barcelona, ​​Amsterdam, Stuttgart, London and Nice, and visited the University of St. Andrews in Scotland to conduct research with the group of Prof. Dr. D.I. Perrett. He investigated, among other things, how the results of rhinoplasty can be measured and discovered specific characteristics that make a nose attractive. In addition to clinical and scientific work, Dr. van Zijl has also held various administrative positions, for example within the Dutch Association for Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery and the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery. At the Boerhaave clinic you can visit Dr. van Zijl for cosmetic and/or functional corrections of the nose, ranging from minor adjustments to extensive (revision) operations.
